INTERNATIONAL COURSE FOR PARENTS AND EDUCATORS
This program is part of the work of El Mundo Duele, an international NGO dedicated to mental health care and psychosocial support for individuals and communities affected by contexts of psycho-emotional crisis. Its contents have been developed and shared within the framework of educational events for organizations and at gatherings such as:
This is a training proposal that offers a clear and accessible reading of the cultural, media, and psychological ecosystem shaping new generations, combining academic research, field experience, and sociocultural analysis. Its goal is to make the most up-to-date knowledge available to families and educational professionals across Latin America, enriching the criteria with which the development of children and young people is supported in a world in crisis—fostering greater freedom, critical thinking, self-esteem, empathy, discernment, and psychosocial well-being.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS PROPOSAL
Do you know?
44% of young people in Latin America feel distressed and sad.
More than 50% of adolescents report having no adult they can talk to about how they feel.
40% believe that violent actions are acceptable as a way to bring about change.
75% think their economic situation will be worse than that of their parents.
Over 60% of mental health disorders begin before the age of 14, yet most do not receive psychological care.
New generations are not “broken”
They are growing up in a new world—profoundly different and deeply challenging:
With more stimulation than containment
With more information than meaning
With more pressure than guidance
The crisis of meaning and mental health is pandemic in nature
And it hits Gen Z and Generation Alpha even harder, as they experience:
Early anxiety and distress
Irritability or apathy
Attention difficulties
Loneliness (despite being “connected”)
Hopelessness
We all have the sense that “something isn’t right”
Even if they can’t fully explain it, at a deeper level children and young people perceive a larger problem:
Crisis ambiental y riesgo de escasez
Environmental crisis and the risk of scarcity
Global instability and social crisis
Uncertainty around well-being and employment
Anxiety about the future
Incertidumbre de bienestar y trabajo
Angustia por el futuro
These are times we were not prepared for
Being in the world now means navigating:
Permanent screens
Algorithms designed to capture attention
Advanced forms of manipulation
Constant comparison
Fear of the future
In this system, nothing is neutral—everything is intentional
And “screen time” is not the only issue:
Opaque algorithms
Influencers with questionable values
Manipulative narratives
Addictive content
Consumption designed to keep users hooked
There are adult behaviors that do not help them
Freedom lies in the middle ground, from where we can act with rationality. That is why it does not help to:
Ignoring or downplaying the problems
Lack of interest in complex issues
Demonizing technology or things
Assuming that “everything will be fine”
Believing that the future is not being built right now
